The Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya (UPC) is a public institution
for higher education and technology, that specialises in the fields of architecture,
engineering, merchant seaman-ship, economics, health sciences and applied mathematics.
The history of UPC and the results it has obtained have proven it to be a competitive
university in the European environment.
The UPC spreads across 8 campuses, with 17 schools, 7 associate schools, 40
departments, 3 institutes and 1 associate institute. There are more than 2000
teachers and 35000 students, just 27 % of them are women. We are working in
'Programa Dona' for equality of opportunities between women and men in the area
of technology.
So, our main objectives are as follows: to achieve an increase in the number
of women studying at UPC, to verify the present situation at secondary level
and how this can affect the number of women registering for technology courses
at university level, to design an academic programme helping women to enter
the world of technology, to draw up an specific plan to help secondary schools
provide guidance to female students in this area, to work for a change of attitude
within the world of industry so as to facilitate entry to the job market by
recent women graduates and to make an impact in information networks and documentary
resources concerning women and new technologies, information and professional
openings.
