CASE 1:
Course on “Laboratory for start up company” at the Faculty of Engineering of the University of Bologna

This course is not compulsory as part of the Engineering curricula.
Duration of the course: 60 hours divided into 2 months.
Subjects of teaching: management of the clients; value chain; marketing; definition of the products; product cycle; segmentation of the market; taxation; meetings with entrepreneurs of spin-off companies. The final exam consists of the drawing up of a business plan.
A survey has been carried within the students ( 5 women and 19 men) who attended the course in the year 2003 . The results are available in the attachment.

CASE 2:
University competition for the best ideas (Start Cup)

Each year the University of Bologna launches a competition on the best ideas in order to found a company
Target: students, new graduates, researchers and in general any people linked to the University of Bologna of any faculty.
What is offered: seminars , once a week, on subjects related to the foundation of a company (business plan, legal aspects, market analysis, sources of funding, accountancy, patents, etc.)
After 5 months, selection of the best 10 ideas developed in the meantime, which are awarded with a grant ; the representative of a company is appointed to the relevant group to provide consultancy.
After 5 more months, selection of the 2 best business plans developed in the meantime, which are awarded with one more grant.
In the 2002 edition, a special grant has been reserved for the two best ideas from female groups.

CASE 3:
Spinner support to start up companies

A Consortium called “SPINNER” has been established in the Region of Emilia Romagna in order to promote entrepreneurship. Partnerss of SPINNER are: a Foundation of the University of Bologna, a local development agency and a national development agency. The initiatives are funded by the Region “Emilia Romagna”
SPINNER provides consultancy to groups of people who propose an innovative idea to set up a company.
98 groups have been supported in the period March 2001 – March 2003

CASE 4:
Region Emilia Romagna financial supports

The Region “Emilia Romagna” provides funds to support training initiatives, organised by different organisations of the same Region, aimed at the promotion of entrepreneurship.

A survey has been carried out among women who attended 20 of these courses in the last 3 years. Results are available in the attachment.

CASE 5:
Comitato Impresa Donna of CNA initiatives

Comitato Impresa Donna of CNA organises training courses and consultancy to promote female entrepreneurship.
